In Which Randomness Occurs

Happy New Year! It's basically still a holiday, or at least it was when I was supposed to be writing this post, plus I have a lot of packing to do, so I figured I'd pull a few tidbits from around the cloud to share with you rather than actually, you know, write something.

• HuffPost lists "15 WTF Moments in Publishing from 2012" and 10 rather unfortunate predictions for New York publishers in 2013.
• Britain's Literary Review announces the winner of the Bad Sex in Fiction award: Infrared by Nancy Huston. You can read hilariously awful snippets from some of the shortlisted books here.
• A study by the Pew Research Center found that the percentage of ebook readers in the US rose this year from 2011, while the number of Americans who had read a book at all dropped slightly.
• NPR discusses the effect of ebooks on traditional publishing.
• And in a similar vein, the New York Times talks about how libraries are filling the void in the decline of traditional bookstores.
